Gene tests, or DNA based testing, consists of taking a sampling of your DNA material to provide an analysis of an increasingly growing number of conditions, inherited traits, genetic risk factors, paternity, ancestry, forensics and more. The terms “genetic testing” and “DNA testing” are oftentimes used synonymously but increasingly are used to specify different types of testing.

DNA testing, broadly speaking, involves any types of test performed on DNA and consists of a direct exam of the actual DNA molecule. However, it is not uncommon to see direct-to-consumer genetic testing companies specify a DNA test as one to determine paternity or family ancestry.

It is now possible to use your DNA to trace your lineage and identify your ancestry. You can now easily discover your geological and ethnic origins. With a simple cheek swab sent in to a DNA testing company you can isolate your DNA groups and explore your genealogy in much greater detail than was previously possible.
